COMMUNITY ADVISORY - Water Main Break-Road Closures

Several roads are closed due to a broken eight inch water main pipe in the 6500 block of Kansas Avenue, Takoma Park. On today 's date at approximately 4:30 a.m., units responded to the 6500 block of Kansas Avenue for the report of water gushing up from the ground.

Upon police arrival, they were met by a residence who advised that he was awakened by the sound of a loud popping sound near his residence. After investigating the noise, he discovered that there was water running through his front yard and into the street.

WSSC was contacted and units have blocked off several streets to prevent vehicles from traveling on the roadway where it was beginning to buckle from the gushing water coming out of the ground.

The following streets are closed until further notice:

Kansas Avenue at Allegheny Avenue

Fourth Avenue at Cockerille Avenue

Highland Avenue at Allegheny Avene

WSSC arrived on the scene and was unsuccessful with shutting off the valves. The WSSC worker advised that it would be late today before the pipe and the roadway would be repaired.
