On August 3, 2010, at approximately 3:20 p.m., during a routine traffic stop for a moving violation in the 6900 block of Cherry Avenue, Delonte Gomez, 29, of Takoma Park, Maryland, was arrested for 2nd degree assault, possession of a deadly weapon, resisting arrest, failure to obey a lawful order and disorderly conduct. When the officer approached the vehicle, the passenger, Gomez, became irate and began yelling racial slurs and threatened the life of the officer. Gomez exited the vehicle and began to charge the officer, who was yelling loud and clear verbal commands ordering Gomez to comply. Gomez did not comply and additional officers assisted to bring Gomez under control. Gomez was taken into custody without further incident. A knife was recovered from Gomez before he was transported to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit.
