Auto Theft and Recovery - Community Advisory

On January 16, 2011, at approximately 1:15 a.m., Takoma Park Police responded to the 6400 block of 5th Avenue for reports of a stolen auto. A look-out was given for a white “sports car” which had pulled up behind a Dodge Durango with three suspects all dressed in black clothing inside. They exited the “sports car,” broke into and stole the Durango. A vehicle matching the description of the white “sports car” was observed by a Takoma Park Police Officer at Kansas Lane and Eastern Avenue. An attempted traffic stop was initiated at New Hampshire Avenue and Eastern Avenue, however, the vehicle fled at a high rate of speed towards Sergeant Road and into the District of Columbia. During a canvass of the area, the Durango was located abandoned at Cockerille Avenue and Highland Avenue with the engine still running. The vehicle had a punched ignition and door lock.
