Auto Theft Arrest Made-Community Advisory

On January 22nd, 2011 at approximately 11:33 a.m., Takoma Park Police Officers located a stolen vehicle parked behind the rear of the McDonalds in the 6300 block of New Hampshire Avenue in Prince Georges County.

The suspect occupying the stolen vehicle had an open warrant and was ordered by the responding officer to show his hands and remain in the car. The suspect did not obey commands and discarded a clear plastic bag containing CDS underneath of the vehicle. The suspect then fled from the officer and a foot pursuit ensued. The suspect ran through backyards and behind apartments. Metro Transit Police were in the area and joined in the foot pursuit. The suspect jumped over a fence and was cut off by a Takoma Park officer. Additional Takoma Park and Metro Transit officers arrived to assist. The suspect was successfully taken into custody.

Prince Georges County Police officers responded to the scene to take custody of the arrested, Gerard Martin Jones 36, of New Carrollton, MD.

This was a cooperative effort by the Takoma Park Police Department, Metro Transit Police Department, and the Prince Georges County Police Department.
